Injury updates on Kelly Bryant, Garrett Williams

by - Assoc. Editor -

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave injury updates on quarterback Kelly Bryant and tight end Garrett Williams during Wednesday's ACC teleconference.

Bryant injured his pinky finger on his right throwing hand in Clemson's spring game, and Swinney said Bryant would be ready once summer workouts begin.

"Kelly is doing great," Swinney. "He's got a little splint on it. He should be fine and ready to go once we get into our summer one."

Williams had surgery to repair his ACL after tearing it at spring practice, and Swinney said if anyone could come back and be a factor this season it would be Williams.

"It's disappointing for Garrett. He is a huge part of this year's team and has been a major contributor for us the past couple of years," Swinney said. "You don't always see that in the stat line but, trust me, he has been a huge contributor for us on the team. But he is a grinder. He is one of those guys that will be back and exceed any expectations. That's how he is. So he is, I would say, already ahead of where most people are at this stage just because that is how he is wired. I'm hopeful he will be able to come back and jump back out there and be a major factor in this season. You never know until you get back going in camp and really evaluate where that knee is. He will come back no matter what, better than ever."
