Howard's Rock ranked #3 CFB Tradition |
NFL.com released it latest article
ranking the Top 15 traditions in college football and Clemson's Howard's Rock was ranked #3 overall.
"The rock is named for former Clemson coach Frank Howard, who in 1967 told his Tigers that rubbing the rock was a privilege," NFL.com said. "Today, as players run down "The Hill" from the east end of the stadium prior to home games, they touch the rock for good luck. The rock came from Death Valley, Calif., and was given to Howard as a gift, and thus Memorial Stadium took on the same name." The only traditions that were ranked ahead of Clemson's Howard's Rock were Texas A&M's Midnight Yell (#1 overall) and Ohio State's Dotting the I (#2 overall). Other ACC traditions ranked were Georgia Tech's Ramblin' Wreck (#10 overall), Miami's smoke tunnel entrance (#9 overall) and Florida State's Sod Cemetery (#4 overall).
