Hopkins gives advice to Deshaun Watson

by - Assoc. Editor -

Former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson is preparing for his future in the NFL as different NFL mock drafts have him linked to different teams while media pundits try to dissect every play he did at Clemson.

Deandre Hopkins had a nearly flawless transition from Clemson to the NFL and told Texans Radio recently that his advice to Watson would be to focus on being a student of the game and master the small things to be successful at the next level.

“Man, I don’t play the quarterback position but if I could give him any advice about coming to the NFL, it would be to just master the game of football,” Hopkins said. “At that position, that’s probably the hardest thing, just mastering football not so much being able to make that throw or any throw you can make. He knows he has the arm to make it but it’s small things that goes into it, not just him going out there and throwing the football.”

Hopkins knows that the quarterback position is difficult because of the mental aspect of the playcalling and making the right reads.

“That was my mindset back then,” Hopkins said. “But now that I became more of a student of the game, I know it’s more to football than just throwing it up to a player. Quarterback has a lot of reads to make. It’s not just that simple in throwing it up to a guy.”

In 2016, Watson completed 388 passes out of 579 attempts for 4593 yards and 41 passing touchdowns with 17 interceptions for an adjusted QBR of 84.9.
