Former Clemson QB/OF released by Rockies

by - Assoc. Editor -

Former Clemson QB/OF Kyle Parker was released by the Colorado Rockies on Friday according to team officials.

Parker was invited to Spring Training by the Rockies as a non-roster invitee but was recently sent down to their Triple-A affiliate after he hit only .222 in 27 at-bats over 20 spring training games this season.

He is now a free agent as the Rockies do not have room on their Triple-A squad.

In two MLB seasons (64 games), Parker batted .182 with three home runs and 12 RBIs with 51 strikeouts and only six walks in 138 plate appearances.

Last season at Triple-A Albuquerque, he hit .280 with nine home runs and 58 RBIs in 93 games. For his minor league career, he is an impressive .290 hitter with 91 home runs over five seasons (563 games).

He was drafted by the Rockies with the 26th overall pick in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.
