Five Tigers named to ESPN's Top 10 ACC players |
ESPN.com has released their rankings of the
Top 25 players in the ACC for 2015 and an impressive eight Clemson players were named to the list.
Also, five of the Top 10 players ranked were from Clemson. Davey O' Brien winner Deshaun Watson was named as the #1 player in the ACC for his record-breaking season as he took his Tigers to the cusp of winning the National Championship. "Watson finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting, and he won virtually every major quarterback award," ESPN.com said. "He finished the 2015 campaign as the first player in FBS history to throw for at least 4,000 yards and rush for at least 1,000 yards. His 478 total yards of offense against Alabama were a national-title-game record. Watson was the top quarterback in the nation coming out of high school in 2014, and in his first full healthy season, as a sophomore, he was the top QB in the nation in 2015, earning consensus All-America honors. He tallied 47 total touchdowns this season, and he returns for 2016 to lead an offense he hopes can be the best in college football history." Defensive end Shaq Lawson was the highest ACC defensive player listed at #3 overall. Lawson finished the season with 86 tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hurries. Other Clemson standouts included cornerback Mackensie Alexander (#6 overall), defensive end Kevin Dodd (#7 overall), running back Wayne Gallman (#10 overall), linebacker Ben Boulware (#14 overall), offensive guard Eric Mac Lain (#15 overall) and offensive tackle Mitch Hyatt (#21 overall).
