North Carolina State's running back coach Des Kitchings had a sideline altercation with Watson during the second half of Clemson's 56-41 road win.
The Wolfpack's head football coach Dave Doeren had the following to say about the incident at his post-game press conference.
"I have not seen whatever happened on our sideline, but I do know one of our assistants got emotional and after the game he apologized to their coaches and to the player involved. As far as I know, everything has been settled that way. I haven't seen it, don't know much about it, but he did come up and tell me that he apologized to their staff and Deshaun. It was a heat of the moment and unfortunate. I think he handled it the right way."
Watson said during his post-game interviews that he didn't understand why the North Carolina State coach reacted the way that he did.
"A guy kind of swung at me and pushed me off," Watson said. "I just walked away. I don’t know why he did it."
Watson finished the game passing for 23-30 for 383 yards and five touchdowns, and he also had 14 carries for 54 yards and a score.
