Dexter Lawrence ranked #2 true freshman in CFB

The college football season is winding down for 2016, and many top freshmen are showing off their progress as they become vital roles for their respective teams.

Pro Football Focus has released their Top 10 True Freshman in College Football and Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is #2 on the list behind only Houston's Ed Oliver.

"Dropping Lawrence from the top spot is harsh this week considering he still had a solid game against Syracuse, but we expect this to be a back-and-forth battle throughout November," PFF said. "Lawrence added four run stops against Syracuse to bring his season total to 23, but he managed just one pressure on 23 rushes."

Lawrence has 41 tackles including six for loss, four sacks, 12 quarterback hits, and a pass deflection this season. He also leads the Tigers with 28 quarterback pressures on the season.

Interestingly, in-state rival South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley was ranked #8 on the list.

"It’s officially time for Gamecocks fans to get excited about Bentley," PFF said. "He’s started just three games but has been a superstar in all three. He’s been particularly outstanding on throws at least 10 yards downfield, as he has completed 16 of 24 throws for 238 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions."

Lawrence will meet up with Bentley and the rest of the Gamecocks shortly in Death Valley.
