Daniel Rodriguez Rodriguez was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze star medal for his heroics at the Battle of Kamdesh. "Twenty-two of us were injured and eight of us were killed," Rodriguez said at the award ceremony to the audience and the Hartford Courant . "It was an 18-hour firefight. We were surrounded by all sides. I threw about 52 hand grenades, shot every rifle I had, we were killing at point-blank range, air support came in from all directions."
