Cowherd calls Watson the better version of Johnny Manziel |
Fox Sports One personality Colin Cowherd said during his television show 'The Herd' on Monday that he doesn't understand why some NFL teams are apprehensive on drafting former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.
"I watch this draft, and everyone keeps telling me that Deshaun Watson has a low ceiling," Cowherd said. "Hey, a low ceiling is a luxury item for all the teams that can get Deshaun Watson. Here's what you get: Maturity, stability, success, workaholic, production. Don't worry about the ceiling. Get guys who are reliable. Ceiling is a luxury item. Buy a house. Take the Corvette back. Get something that gets good gas mileage. Spend your money wisely." Cowherd thinks that Watson is a more talented version of Johnny Manziel without any of the crazy baggage. "Here is what I don't understand about Deshaun Watson," Cowherd said. "A lot of you loved Johnny Manziel, and I had to fight you off for two years. A lot of you loved Johnny Manziel. Isn't Deshaun Watson the better version of Johnny Manziel. Bigger, stronger, smarter, more coachable, more mature and more successful in college. You all bragged to me for years about Johnny Manzeil because he was good against Nick Saban. That's all I heard for two years. 'Oh. He is good against Nick Saban.' Deshaun Watson was great twice against Nick Saban. He could have beaten him twice if the special teams at Clemson would do their job. He would have beaten him twice. How in the world can you love Johnny Manziel and you don't get Deshaun Watson? I get all the maturity, coachable, size with Deshaun Watson without all the baggage of Johnny Manziel. I don't get it. I hear nothing about Deshaun Watson. All I heard for two years from every scout, from every GM, from every analyst, from every fan, from every email, from every Twitter, how great Johnny Manzeil was and now nobody likes Deshaun Watson." In 2016, Watson completed 388 passes out of 579 attempts for 4593 yards and 41 passing touchdowns with 17 interceptions (and his degree) for an adjusted QBR of 84.9.
