ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance for a season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is and projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule.
Clemson is ranked #19 on the ranked preseason list with a projected 8.9 wins and 3.5 losses for the season. The Tigers have a 43.0% chance of winning the ACC, 0.9% chance to win out and a strength of schedule of 36 according to the Football Power Index. Clemson odds against individual 2015 games are Wofford (99.7%), Appalachian State (82.6%), Louisville (62.8%), Notre Dame (54.8%), Georgia Tech (63.1%), Boston College (88.8%), Miami (53.1%), NC State (61.5%), Florida State (61.0%), Syracuse (83.6%), Wake Forest (93.1%) and South Carolina (60.0%). The only ACC schools in the top 25 were Florida State (#21), Georgia Tech (#22) and Virginia Tech (#24). The next highest ranked teams were Miami (#29) and North Carolina (#34). One interesting note about the ESPN rankings is that the SEC has 8 of the top 17 teams and 11 of the top 31.
