Clemson ranked in Top 10 of ESPN's Future Power Rankings |
ESPN.com released its
Future Top 25 Power Rankings this week which is a three-year projection of the best college football programs in the nation.
The weighted formula to determine the power rankings were coaching (27 percent), current talent (27 percent), recruiting (20 percent), title path (16 percent) and program foundation (10 percent). Clemson was ranked #7 in the future power rankings with the following scores: Coaching (7.4), Current Talent (8.3), Recruiting (8.6), Title Path (8.6) and Foundation (8.6). "The Tigers have knocked on the door of elite success in this era of the sport, but they've never been able to walk through," ESPN said about the Tigers. "Clemson has been limited by its own failures, but FSU's re-emergence has been an even bigger roadblock." ESPN thinks that they are close to the Seminoles and the rest of the elite teams in the country. "Really, it just has to stay the current course. Clemson's administrative support, recruiting efforts and talent pool are not far off the Seminoles' pace. It would not be surprising to see the Tigers in a playoff in the coming seasons." Other ACC football teams ranked in the Top 25 included Florida State (#3 overall) and Louisville (#23 overall). The voting panel of the power rankings consisted of ESPN analysts Brad Edwards, Brock Huard, Tom Luginbill, Mark Schlabach, Travis Haney, Heather Dinich, Sharon Katz and Adam Rittenberg.
