Clemson moves up in latest ESPN team recruiting rankings

by - Assoc. Editor -

Clemson is ranked #16th in ESPN's latest 2016 football class rankings that were released on Wednesday morning.

This is an increase of one spot from Clemson's last ESPN team recruiting ranking at #17. Recent elite defensive end commitment of Xavier Kelly from Wichita, Kansas helped move the Tigers up the rankings.

ACC schools - Florida State (#3 overall) and Miami (#8 overall) are battling for a Top 10 overall class so far in the ESPN list. Duke has an impressive early recruiting start with a #22 ranking.

However, the Tigers are no slouch either on the national recruiting front with seven ESPN 300 recruits committed. The 11 commits breakdown as eight four-star recruits and three three-star recruits. Wide receiver Cornell Powell is still very underrated by ESPN as a three-star recruit.

"Clemson is becoming a fixture in the top 10 under Dabo Swinney," ESPN Recruiting on Clemson's recruiting. "Running back and No. 30 overall Tavien Feaster got the ball rolling with a commitment on national signing day and has since been joined by No. 22 Rahshaun Smith. No. 199 Zerrick Cooper is yet another talented quarterback headed to Clemson. No. 229 Tavares Chase is yet another talented receiver from the Tampa area set to play for the Tigers."

Ohio State (#1 overall), USC (#5 overall) and Penn State (#6 overall) are three other schools that are trending upward in the ESPN recruiting rankings.
