Clemson, Tennessee battle over who is 'WRU' |
Football offseason has truly begun as schools are recruiting and taking jabs at each other on social-media. The latest is Clemson and Tennessee debating on who is the better school at producing NFL wide receivers.
Tennessee's wide receiver coach Zach Azzanni posted the following Twitter poster on Tuesday afternoon stating that his school is 'The original WRU'. The Volunteers have had 10 wide receivers drafted in the 80’s and one receiver drafted each year in the 90's besides 1993. Some of their famous wide receiver alumni include Donte Stallworth, Peerless Price, Da'Rick Rogers, Stanley Morgan and Alvin Harper. However, only Cordarrelle Patterson and Robert Meachem have been drafted from Tennessee since 2007. Tennessee's wide receiver stats in the NFL last season were 80 receptions for 1,111 yards and four touchdowns. As a recruiting sidenote - Both schools are vying for the services for 4-star wide receiver Diondre Overton from Greensboro, N.C. and want him to know they produce a lot of NFL wide receiver talent. His top two schools are Clemson and Tennessee.
Other schools that certainly could also lay claim to 'WRU' include Southern California (11 WR draft picks since 2001) and LSU (14 WR draft picks since 2000).
