Clemson DE ranked in ESPN's Top 5 Breakout Stars |
ESPN has released its latest article ranking its
Top 10 college football breakout stars in 2016.
Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell was ranked #4 and the only defensive player on the list after redshirting last season with a wrist injury. "Despite a seemingly continual flow of players heading to the NFL, the Tigers just keep regenerating talent on the defensive line. Ferrell had a head-turning spring, those close to the program indicated this week to Insider," ESPN's Travis Haney said. "The four-star prospect in the 2015 class enrolled at 6-foot-5, 225 pounds. But after redshirting last season, Ferrell now has the bulk to hold his own against -- yet still get past -- college offensive tackles. Coaches are not anticipating much pass-rush dropoff from Shaq Lawson, between Ferrell and sophomore Austin Bryant on the opposite end." The Top 10 2016 breakout stars according to ESPN were QB Lamar Jackson, RB L.J. Scott, QB Shane Buechele, DE Clelin Ferrell, QB Jacob Eason, WR John Ross, WR Preston Williams, WR Auden Tate, QB Wilton Speight and RB Bo Scarbrough.
