C.J. Spiller will not be returning to the Bills |
Former Clemson running back C.J. Spiller revealed that he will not be returning to the Buffalo Bills during a Tuesday interview with the NFL Network.
The host introduced Spiller as a "former Bills player" and broke the news that LeSean "Shady" McCoy was the new running back for the Bills organization. McCoy was traded straight up for Bills' promising linebacker Kiko Alonso. "To me, I thought he (Willie Mcginest) was joking, just trying to play a joke on me because he’s a (former) Patriot and I was a former Bill," Spiller told the Sporting News. "Then probably about five minutes later, (Bills) management called me and told me that they were going in that direction." Spiller held out hope to the last minute that he might actually re-sign with the Bills. "I did [wish to] have a chance, hoping I could return there," he said. "Very few guys get to play their whole careers with one team. But unfortunately that don't happen in this business, and I found out today that don't happen in this business." He rushed 668 times for 3,321 yards and 12 touchdowns during his time with the Bills. Spiller went on to say that he would not mind talking to the Eagles about a possible roster spot. “I’m pretty sure that Chip [Kelly] has my agent’s phone number so I’m pretty sure we might have to make a call over there,” Spiller said. “I’ve never been in that type of system before, but I don’t think I’d have any problem adjusting to it.” Free agency period for Spiller will begin on March 10. Some of the teams that have interest include the Cardinals, Jets, 49ers and Dolphins. He rushed for 300 yards on 78 carries and had another 125 yards on 19 receptions in a injury-plagued 2014.
