Former Clemson standout and NFL free agent running back C.J. Spiller was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday according to multiple reports.

Seattle re-signed fullback Will Tukuafu to take Spiller's vacant spot on the roster.

In two games with the Seahawks, Spiller had three rushes for nine yards and had five catches for 43 yards but he was not needed after rookie C.J. Prosise is back healthy from his injury.

Spiller was released by the New Orleans Saints recently after just 18 months and 13 appearances in NFL games with the team. The Saints signed him to a four-year, $16 million deal last offseason as a free agent. Since his salary has already been paid for 2016, his next salary this season will more than likely be around the league minimum.

He finished his injury-plagued 2015 NFL season with 36 carries for 112 yards and 34 catches (on 44 targets) for 239 yards and two receiving touchdowns. For his NFL career with the Bills and Saints, Spiller had 704 rushes for 3,433 yards with 12 rushing touchdowns and 4,867 yards from scrimmage and 20 total scores. In 2012, Spiller was named to the Pro Bowl.
