C.J. Spiller listed as 4th string RB for Saints |
Former Clemson standout
C.J. Spiller was listed as the fourth-team running back for the New Orleans Saints with their preseason depth chart that was released on Tuesday.
Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower, and Marcus Murphy were ahead of Spiller on the Saints' depth chart at running back. The Saints' coaching staff could be using this as motivation for Spiller as he is actually battling Travaris Cadet and Daniel Lasco for the 4th running back slot. Realistically, the former Clemson great could be potentially released if he slides farther back in the running back rotation. However, I expect him to rise on the depth chart closer to the regular season as he regains some of his explosiveness back from previous injuries. Spiller finished his disappointing injury-plagued 2015 season with 36 carries for 112 yards and 34 catches (on 44 targets) for 239 yards and two receiving touchdowns. For his NFL career with the Bills and Saints, Spiller has 704 rushes for 3,433 yards and 12 scores. He signed a four-year, $16 million deal last offseason as a free agent.
