Bryant dealing with issues outside of football |
Former Clemson wide receiver
Martavis Bryant
Martavis Bryant "We're in the process of working out a plan and what's appropriate for him the individual, not the player," head coach Mike Tomlin said via ESPN. "I think that's an element of this we need to keep in perspective as we move forward with him. He has issues that he's dealing with that are bigger than football. We're committed to assisting the man in that." Tomlin did say that Bryant let down lots of people that are close to him. "Let his teammates down, this organization down, his family and friends. But we stand behind him as he takes the necessary actions to move forward." Bryant had 26 catches for 549 yards and eight touchdowns in his rookie season (9 games). The eight touchdowns were tied for fourth-most among NFL rookies, and he was only the eighth Steeler's rookie to reach 500 yards. At Clemson, Bryant had 61 receptions for 1,354 yards and 13 touchdowns along with a 17-yard carry and 291 yards on 14 kickoff returns in 1,020 snaps over 37 games (13 starts) in his career ... first in school history in yards per reception (22.2) and tied for 10th in receiving touchdowns.
