Former Clemson track and field star Brianna Rollins won a gold medal for the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.48 in lane six at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Wednesday night.

The United States swept the top three in the event with Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali, and Kristi Castlin for the first time in Olympic history.

“We came out here to do the best that we could, and that’s what we did,” Rollins told NBC reporter Lewis Johnson after the win.

Rollins is Clemson's first-ever female athlete to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics according to Clemson SID Tim Bourret. She is also Clemson’s first individual gold medalist in any Olympic event since Shawn Crawford won the men’s 200 in Athens, Greece in 2004.

The athletes that made the finals of the event were Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali, Pedrya Seymour, Phylicia George, Kristi Castlin, Cindy Ofili, Cindy Roleder, and Tiffany Porter.

Rollins won the semifinals of the 100-meters with a time of 12.47.

She is a two-time USA champion and 2013 World champion in the event. During her time at Clemson, she won three NCAA titles and was named The Bowerman which goes to the sport's top athlete.

Rollins' 25th birthday is Thursday and she will have plenty to celebrate with her gold medal for the United States.
