was named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association on Wednesday. This is the third of the five major All-America teams to be released and Beasley has been a first-team selection by all three so far. Earlier Beasley was a first-team selection by the Walter Camp Foundation and the Associated Press.

With Beasley’s selection, this marks the sixth Clemson player in the six years Dabo Swinney has been the Tigers head coach to be named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association. Sammy WatkinsSammy Watkins

was the fist-team all-purpose player in 2009.

Beasley led the ACC in sacks with year with 11 and in tackles for loss with 18.5. He will leave Clemson as its all-time sack leader with 32, and ranks tied for fifth in ACC history in that category.

The native of Adairsville, Ga. was earlier named a finalist for the Lombardi Award, the Bednarik Award and the Hendricks Award and was chosen ACC Defensive Player of the Year by the ACC Sports Media and ACC Coaches.

Beasley is a big reason Clemson is ranked number-one in the nation in total defense, yards per play allowed and tackles for loss. He and the Tigers will face Oklahoma in the Russell Athletic Bowl on December 29 in Orlando.
