Auburn DB suspended vs. Clemson

Auburn head coach Guz Malzahn said during his Tuesday press conference that junior defensive back Stephen Roberts will be suspended for the season opener against #2 Clemson.

“He will be suspended for this game [Clemson],” Malzahn said to reporters. “It could be week to week.”

Roberts from Opelika, AL was arrested last Wednesday on charges of attempting to elude an officer and for possessing a firearm without a license according to multiple reports.

Both charges are Class A misdemeanors in Alabama and carry a penalty of no more than one year in jail and up to a $6,000 fine. His first court date is Nov. 17.

This is the fifth offseason arrest for Auburn with defensive back Stephen Roberts, defensive back Jeremiah Dinson, wide receiver Ryan Davis, defensive back Carlton Davis, and defensive end Bryon Cowart.

Roberts had 26 tackles and three pass breakups last season in seven games and was expected to the starter at boundary safety in nickel packages against #2 Clemson.

Auburn will host Clemson at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Labor Day weekend on Sept. 3 at 9 pm EST on ESPN.
