Elliott discusses the quarterback battle |
Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott spoke to the local media on Monday evening as he discussed various subjects including the current important quarterback battle between Kelly Bryant, Tucker Israel, Zerrick Cooper, and Hunter Johnson.
"Four days in practice and we are going to put it down on Wednesday and let them scrimmage a little bit but definitely can see the ability especially in the young guys, a lot of talent but still trying to process everything," Elliott said. "I really, really like the confidence level that Kelly [Bryant] has come out with. He seems to be the most consistent day in and day out. I'm excited about Tucker [Israel]. Tucker is much improved from the fall. Really until we can let those guys scrimmage and get us off the field and kind of slow down with the installation and see how they handle it, but so far pleased with the confidence but still got some work to do." Elliott said that he everyone is getting reps, but Bryant is getting the majority of them as the current starter. "I let Coach Streeter handle that. He does a good job of trying to get all those guys opportunities, but obviously, Kelly is the one that is getting the majority of the reps then Tucker and also Zerrick Cooper," Elliott said. "Trying to being Hunter [Johnson] along as we can. Again, just a freshman. He should still be in high school. He's four days into a college installation. You see definitely the arm talent and the ability but still trying to figure it all out."
