Swinney on his approach towards controversial satellite camps |
Different college football coaches are currently setting up their plans for future satellite camp dates throughout the country.
A satellite camp is when college coaches travel long distances outside their normal recruiting blueprint to be guests at football camps hosted by other institutions. For example, Michigan has set up a reported 24 camps in 15 different states including the South Carolina Elite Prospects Camp at Columbia Ridge View High School on June 17. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said that he will continue his youth football camps at Clemson which attract some of the top talent across the southeast. “We’ll still kind of do business as usual for us at Clemson,” Swinney said via the Athens Banner-Herald during the recent Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge charity golf event. “We’re going to continue to have our camps at Clemson, and hopefully, kids that are interested in Clemson will come and see us there. I don’t need to go somewhere to evaluate a young person. I can do all of that, but I do need them to come to Clemson to make sure it’s the right match on both sides.”
