Radakovich gives vote of confidence to Brownell, Smith |
CLEMSON - Clemson Athletic Director
Dan Radakovich met with the media Tuesday morning, and he was asked if he had met with men's basketball coach
Brad Brownell and women's basketball coach Audra Smith to discuss expectations moving forward, and he said yes.
The men's basketball team finished the season 17-14 but earned ten wins in the ACC. Brownell is 107-87 in six years at Clemson, but has made the NCAA Tournament just once, in 2010. His teams have missed the postseason the last two seasons. In two years under Audra Smith, Clemson is 22-40. This past season, they started 9-0 at home, but dropped the final 16 games. Radakovich said he has met with both coaches and is looking for better days. "We have had meetings with our coaches. There was certainly a disappointing ending associated with men’s basketball, but we can’t forget the fact that we won 10 games in the toughest league in the entire country," Radakovich told TigerNet. "There were some real positives associated with that. So we continue to grow in that sport. We can’t let what happened in the last few minutes of the final game erase some real positives that we associated with the program. I think one of the changes today we’re looking at a new person to come in and do our strength and conditioning, just another way of saying we have to continue moving up. This is the toughest league in the country, so how are we going to continue to get better. Women’s basketball-when I hired Audra I knew it was a tear-down, rebuild. Hopefully, last year was the bottom, and we start the rebuild moving forward."
