Notes on Swinney post-UNC game

by - Assoc. Editor -

Here are some quick notes of Dabo Swinney's press conference after the 50-35 win over UNC on Saturday night.

On Germone Hopper - finally starting to blossom in what he know he can be. Starting to put work ethic with the talent.

This is night you got to tip your hat to number 4. He made a lot of mistakes. 6 TDs in first ever start.

He makes the game look easier. He makes it look slow. He has a a poise about him that is unique especially for a guy who is a true freshman.

Our future looks bright with that young man and all the young talent around him.

On N.C. State - we got to play better next week. We probably played better last week and lost. It was great to be home.

Our fans had great energy from moment we got off the bus. We got to be a great home team.

Big week and season starts tomorrow for us.

On injuries - DB Martin Jenkins we held out. Charone Peake was ready to play but we wanted to try to get through game without him. no other injuries that he knows of.

Decision on Cole - felt good where we were and wanted to put Cole back in there to finish the game.

On Cole Stoudt: We got a lot of confidence in Cole. At that point we were just trying to milk the clock and put game away. We continue to play Cole when we get the opportunity as long as he plays well. We obviously going to feature number 4.

On Deshaun Watson: He has proven he is special. Kid has been starting since he was 14 against big time competition. He just never flinches. He just never gets frustrated. He just has a poise that you can't teach

It is his intangibles that make him great. Going to look at this film and be critical because he missed some opportunities.

We lost that killer instinct and didn't play with that sense of urgency every play.

On Clemson's running game - They can't defend everything. If we are struggling running the ball, usually there is a reason. They took some chances and it cost them.

I don't care how we score, I just want to score. There are some things we got to do better coaching and playing. We didn't bust a big play.

On DE Vic Beasley: Business-like. Played hard and made some huge plays. He is a handful. I'm glad he is on our team. Sometimes i want to kick him out of practice because he makes us lose confidence in our tackles. He makes me really proud of him and he is just going to get better. He wants to be great
