Elliott on players that are pushing for more playing time

by - Assoc. Editor -

Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott spoke with the local media about various topics on Monday including some of the players that are pushing for playing time.

"I think [Jay] Guillermo is pushing [Ryan] Norton at the center position," Elliott said. "At the running back spot now with Zac [Brooks] being back and ready to roll, I'm seeing him kind of push back towards the front. At the tight end position, it is about kind of how it has been with Leggett at the top and the rest of those guys chasing him."

Elliott thinks that his two freshman wide receivers are very talented and will continue to push for playing time.

"At the wide-out spot, really just trying to get Deon [Cain] to come along," Elliott said. I think he is very, very talented, but with the transition from going from quarterback to receiver it has taken a little bit longer than we would want, but he is right on track, if that makes sense to you. [We are] continuing to push Ray-Ray [McCloud]. I think Ray Ray is a guy that can push for more snaps to help Artavis [Scott]. Again, if you have a good 1-2 combo at that 2 man position with as much as we do, that makes you very explosive. So those are the ones that are pushing the most probably."

Bryant's head injury against App State appears to be a non-issue, and he is another youngster pushing for playing time.

"I haven't heard anything in terms of a break or anything," Elliott on Bryant's injury. "I heard he was fine. I'm sure we will get an update, but he was out there at practice yesterday and I didn't see any issues."

"You know I think he is pushing. I think he is pushing and the key is to find situations to play him in the game because you earn reps in practice, but also the game flow at that position it is tough to play three guys in the game. But I think he is getting close. He is pushing. You can see how dynamic he is with the ball, but it is just finding opportunities to play him in the game for him to really make a push."
