Venables known as a great teacher |
From Tulsa World:
"Coach Venables is a great teacher," said Lofton, starting middle linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons. "I mean, I came from Class 3A football (Kingfisher). I didn't know anything about Cover 2, Cover 3; I just went out and played. Once I got to Oklahoma, one of the main things he taught me was discipline and how to study film. "You'd be surprised. I've been in the league four years now, and I've run into numerous players that don't know how to study film and don't know how to break it down and carry it onto the practice field and into the games on Sunday. That's one of the things he taught me how to do, and I use that to this day."
Although everyone seems happy that Venables has what looks like a good opportunity, the vast majority of fan reaction over Venables' exit after 13 seasons as an OU assistant has been disappointment over losing a quality coach - a teacher of football, a mentor of men.
