Tommy Bowden on news father is new wins leader

After the NCAA stripped Joe Paterno of wins, Tommy Bowden's father, Bobby Bowden, is the new all-time winningest head coach in D 1-A with 377. Bowden told the Orlando Sentinel he hated to see his father inherit the title the way he did.

“I’ve got a dog in the hunt obviously, so I’m biased on my opinion,” Tommy Bowden, the former Clemson head coach, continued. “It’s your father and you want to be happy for your father, but you’ve got to put it into context because of the severity of lives that were ruined for a long time. But again, you ought to be able to comment on something and still understand the severity of what happened.”

“Being my father, you can be happy for him,” Tommy Bowden said. “But looking at the overall context of the thing, it’s kind of a muted … muted happiness.”
