Tigers close out regular season with loss at Notre Dame

by - Assoc. Editor -

Jerian Grant had 19 points and eight assists on Notre Dame's Senior Night to lead the Irish to an 81-67 win over Clemson on Saturday at Purcell Pavillion.

The Tigers fall to 16-14 overall and 8-10 in the ACC while Notre Dame improves to 26-5 overall and 14-4 in the ACC. Clemson shot 26/64 for 40.6% while Notre Dame was hot from the field going 30/55 at a 54.50% clip.

Clemson forward Jaron Blossomgame had a solid all-around game with 22 points (1st seven Clemson points of the game), 10 rebounds and three assists. Landry Nnoko had a big bounce-back game with 19 points (tied career-high), 9 rebounds and two assists.

However, senior guards Damarcus Harrison and Rod Hall combined for only four points.

The Tigers (No. 8 seed) will now face Florida State (No. 9 seed) in ACC tournament play on Wednesday at noon and Virginia will play the winner of that contest. Clemson and Florida State split their two-game series during the regular season with both teams winning on the road.

"They (Notre Dame) played very well," Clemson coach Brad Brownell said during his post-game interview. "But we don't win games where we don't make it tough. It was too easy for them to score."

Brownell said he thought his team might have an edge on the inside.

"We thought we could score inside," Brownell said. "We took advantage of Jaron on smaller guys. Offense wasn't the problem today."

Clemson has lost six out of their last eight contests.
