Tigers Practice in Humid Conditions Tuesday

by -

CLEMSON, S.C. — It was a “sticky start” to a two and a half hour practice on the Jervey Meadows area for the Clemson football team on Tuesday. The Tigers came on the fields after a downpour and were met by brilliant sunshine, which sent the humidity skyward.

It was the second straight day the Tigers worked on the fields behind Doug Kingsmore Stadium as head coach Dabo Swinney changes things up a bit for his team that must play at Georgia and at Florida State within the first three games of the season.

It was a good work day for the Tigers, who will hold a situational scrimmage in Death Valley on Wednesday morning, followed by a 14-period practice in the afternoon.

“I loved the intensity today,” said Swinney. “They worked hard in humid conditions and I was impressed with the effort.”

Swinney did find some areas that need improvement.

“We need to improve in short yardage from the offensive side of the football. The second team did well, but the first team offense has to improve in that area. And overall, we still have too many penalties in short yardage. We need to improve from a discipline standpoint in that area.

“Wednesday and Saturday will be big days (both scrimmage days). We can’t stay in camp forever. We will soon have to make some decisions. It will be an important day in terms of focus on Wednesday.”
