Texans coach on Deshaun Watson's 1st NFL game

Former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson was very impressive in his first NFL action against the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday night.

Watson finished the night 15-for-25 passing for 179 yards with zero turnovers and had three rushes for 24 yards including an impressive 15-yard touchdown run.

His head coach Bill O'Brien spoke highly of Watson's first experience in an NFL game.

"He's a smart player. He's an instinctive player," O'Brien said about Watson. "First game out there I thought he did some good things. It's a big jump from college to the NFL. I thought he handled it pretty well. Probably a couple of things that we could have done differently. He probably could have done a little better on certain plays but overall I thought he handled himself pretty well for first time out."

O'Brien had the following take on starter Tom Savage's first action of the preseason.

"Tom is a resilient guy," O'Brien said. "He's always going to go out there and put his best foot forward. He's a fun guy to coach."

I'm not big on rookies starting their first season in the NFL and getting their confidence crushed but Watson will make this a tough decision for O'Brien regarding the quarterback battle.
