Streeter: Bryant will be on the field one way or another

Clemson's football team is fresh off winning the National Championship last season but change is in store as star quarterback Deshaun Watson has moved on to the NFL with the Houston Texans.

Currently, the starting quarterback is dual-threat Kelly Bryant who was a local in-state star at Wren high school who has been patiently waiting his turn at Clemson. Bryant has legit speed with his legs and can run you over if he needs to get a first down similar in the Tajh Boyd mold.

Clemson quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter was asked on Tuesday during the Dabo Swinney media golf tournament if Bryant would be on the field if he doesn't win the starting quarterback job.

"Absolutely. He's dynamic," Streeter said. "We saw that in the spring. We have known that as coaches but we all saw it more in the spring game. He's a guy that when something breaks down, he can make something look real good, just because of his running ability, his strength, his size. He's not easy to tackle. Not just because of his athleticism but because of his size and his strength. So, that is where we all know that playing quarterback is not just being able to throw the football. He can do that. He is so special because he's that dual threat. He's a guy that can do both. He can get you out of a jam, similar to what Deshaun (Watson) did as far as the athleticism."

In limited action last season, Bryant was 6-for-9 passing for 48 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, he had 12 rushes for 22 yards and a score.
