Stoops declined to answer questions about Venables

According to OU officials, Venables, who’s been an OU assistant the past 13 years and just completed his eighth season as defensive coordinator, left Norman on Friday for a recruiting trip with co-defensive coordinator Mike Stoops.

OU coach Bob Stoops declined to answer questions at the OU-Kansas State basketball game Saturday afternoon.

A source close to the Sooner program told the Transcript on Saturday that Venables was contacted by Clemson about the vacancy earlier this week. The source did not know if Venables has been offered the job.
