The Dabo Swinney Media Golf Tournament was held on Tuesday at the Reserve and the various Clemson coaches previewed the upcoming season for the large gathering of media in attendance.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney shared during the event that wide receiver Ray Ray McCloud is certainly one of the most gifted players on the team but recently had a procedure to place a screw in his wrist to fix a previous injury.

"Ray-Ray is one of the most talented guys we got on our roster," Swinney said. "He is just gifted, a gifted football player. He is tough. We don't have a tougher kid that Ray-Ray. Tough, fast. He's strong. Pound for pound, he is a strong kid. He was just a very immature guy coming in here. Not in a bad way, just not a real understanding of what it was going to take to be a great player at Clemson at this level."

Swinney knows that McCloud has all the potential in the world to be an elite special teams performer.

"He could be the best punt returner in the country if he would work with the focus it takes," Swinney said. "He has the ball skills. That's not a problem. It's just a matter of putting in the work and having his mindset the way it needs to be. I saw that from him this spring. I saw an edge to him this spring I had not seen."

McCloud's injury is similar to Hunter Renfrow's wrist injury he suffered last season.

"Ray-Ray I think will have a great year," Swinney said. "Right now he is coming off kind of a similar injury that Renfrow had where they had to put a little screw in his wrist area. The same thing Renfrow had. He will be able to practice, but he might be a little limited the first week, but we will get him rolling and he should be fine."

In 2016, McCloud had 49 receptions for 472 yards and two receiving touchdowns. For his short collegiate career, he has 78 catches for 723 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.
