RB Mike Blakely will transfer to Auburn

Mike Blakely had shown some interest in Clemson, but appears he will take the Cam Newton road and transfer from Florida and end up at Auburn.

Four-star running back Mike Blakely, who signed with Florida this year, has transferred to Auburn.

He has enrolled and will have to sit out the 2011 season, according to AuburnUndercover.com and AuburnSports.com and Inside the Auburn Tigers.

Blakely chose Florida and then-Gator coach Urban Meyer over Auburn during the recruiting process. New Florida coach Will Muschamp granted Blakely a full release from his scholarship.

The 5-foot-9, 198-pound running back will sit out this season because of the NCAA transfer rule.

Blakely's high school coach, Joe Kinnan, told AuburnUndercover.com he contacted Auburn on behalf of Blakely.

"I think Auburn has always been first in his heart," said Kinnan, the coach at Manatee High School in Bradenton, Fla. "It's just very fortunate that Coach Muschamp, a class act, went ahead and released him to go to Auburn. He didn't think he would have an opportunity to go to Auburn, but it worked out."
