Clemson Notes: • Clemson opened the season with back-to-back wins for the third season in a row. • The Tigers are coming off a 2-1 win on Sunday night against Radford. Senior Diego Campos netted both of Clemson’s goals for his first scores of the season. • Campos, along with fellow senior Jason Wright and sophomore Malick Mbaye, have scored for the Tigers this season. Mbaye’s goal came on a penalty kick against Cal State Fullerton, as did one of Campos’ against Radford. • Campos leads the team with two goals and four points. • Junior goalkeeper Ximo Miralles has totaled seven saves against one goal allowed. • Clemson is ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Freshman Justin Sukow scored the game-winner with five seconds remaining in overtime to seal the come-from-behind win. • Sophomore Luca Mayr leads the team with five points, as he has scored one goal and assisted on three, including the game-winner over Mercer. • Senior goalkeeper William Pyle has allowed two goals and has eight saves. • South Carolina finished with an 11-8-1 overall record and a 5-2-1 record in Conference USA in 2016. Their 2016 run in the NCAA Tournament ended in the second round at Historic Riggs Field. Series Notes: • The Tigers and Gamecocks met twice in 2016, and Clemson won both matches 2-1. The first was a regular season matchup in Columbia, S.C., and the second was an NCAA Tournament second round game that Clemson hosted and won in overtime. • The last time Clemson hosted South Carolina on First Friday was in 2015, and the second-largest crowd in Historic Riggs Field history (7,423) watched as the Tigers shut out the Gamecocks, winning 3-0. • Dating back to 1978, Clemson leads the overall series 27-17-1.
