MBB: Clemson 57 Wake Forest 62 Final

by -

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Clemson led 44-42 in the second half but Wake Forest produced a 13-2 run to take control in a 62-57 win over the Tigers on Tuesday at Lawrence Joel Coliseum. The Tigers fell to 17-10 with the loss and 8-7 in the ACC. The win bumped Wake Forest to 15-13 overall, 5-10 in league play.

"We got out of character a little bit, settled for too many jump shots against a zone and we didn't respond as well as we needed too," said Clemson head coach Brad Brownell. "Our best player had a tough night, he hasn't had many, but tonight was a night where he struggled a little and we didn't have enough other guys to play well to carry us in the second half. Nnoko was in foul trouble, that's a problem and Wake was able to capitalize. They executed very well offensively Jeff and his staff has recruited some very good young players their sophomore class is really good. Those guys played with a lot of confidence."

K.J. McDaniels struggled Tuesday, posting 10 points on just 3-of-11 field goals with four turnovers. In his stead, Clemson looked to emerging junior Damarcus Harrison, who posted a team-high 15 points. Harrison continued his recent hot streak by making six of 12 shots, 3-of-7 from three. Rod Hall was a third Tiger to reach double figures with 10 points.

"He [McDaniels] was having some problems," said Brownell. "I know something happened in the middle of the game and he was trying to get some treatment while the game was going on. I don't know exactly what it was nobody told me that he couldn't play but obviously probably affected him because he's normally a better player than he was tonight and shoots the ball a lot better than he did."

Clemson shot 50 percent in the opening half, but fell victim to 36 percent in the second half. The Tigers also committed 13 turnovers, which led to 11 Wake Forest points. The Tigers, who came in leading the ACC in free throw percentage, shot just 5-for-13 at the charity stripe Tuesday.

The Tigers finish out the regular season with three home games next week, starting Sunday with Maryland’s final visit as an ACC foe. The Tigers and Terrapins tip off from Littlejohn Coliseum at 1 p.m.
