FSU Student arrested for selling fake tickets

by -

From Orlando Sentinel:

According to WCTV, five victims of Mertin’s counterfeit scheme have been identified. FSU Police told the television station that each of the victims responded to a Craigslist ad for “student guest” tickets. The television station reported that police have discovered Mertin sold five tickets at $70 each before two of the three buyers got suspicious.

They arranged another ticket purchase with Mertin. Only this time, they confronted him and alerted FSU Police.

“They set up their own sting, really,” FSU Police spokesman Jim Russell told WCTV.

Police later searched Mertin’s home and confiscated his computer and phone. Arrest papers indicate Mertin “remembers selling at least five tickets with altered barcodes and printing at least 22 copies of these tickets.”

If you believe you were a victim of the ticket fraud, contact FSU Police at (850) 644-1234.
