From Heather Dinich of ESPn:
The skinny: Both teams look vastly different since they last met in early October, with Virginia Tech starting to reach its peak and Clemson faltering down the stretch. Turnovers have been a problem for the Tigers, who have lost three of their last four games, and the Hokies haven't lost since the Clemson game. Clemson was 8-0 earlier this year and could have been ranked as high as No. 4 in the BC standings, had the Tigers not lost to NC State on Nov. 19. Virginia Tech has held the No. 5 ranking for each of the past two weeks. The biggest difference for Virginia Tech during its current seven-game winning streak has been the play of quarterback Logan Thomas, who has accounted for 23 TDs (14 pass/9 run) and thrown just two interceptions since the loss to Clemson.
The history: Virginia Tech has four outright ACC titles, including three of the past four years, and all under coach Frank Beamer. Last year, Virginia Tech beat Florida State 44-33 for their fourth ACC title in seven seasons in the league. Clemson last played for the ACC title in 2009 and lost to Georgia Tech 39-34. The Tigers are looking to win their first ACC title since 1991, but lead the ACC overall with 13 conference championships.
