ESPN: ACC Heisman Watch

From Heather Dinich of ESPN:

Statistically, Boyd didn’t have his best game in the win at Virginia Tech, but he pulled the ball down, made smart decisions, and didn’t force things. He managed the game very well and kept the offense moving against a gritty Virginia Tech defense. Here’s a look at Boyd’s resume heading into Saturday’s game against Boston College:

Boyd is ranked in the top 20 in the nation in passing efficiency, and his 14-2 touchdown passes to interceptions is a big reason. That 7-1 ratio is on pace to be the best in school history. The existing mark was set by Cullen Harper in 2007 when he had 27 touchdown passes and just six interceptions, a 4.5-1 ratio.

With 14 touchdown passes in just five games, Boyd ranks tied for fifth in the nation in total touchdown passes.

Boyd is the first Clemson quarterback to win his first five starts since Chris Morocco had five in a row from 1987-89. The record for consecutive wins as a starter to start a career is six by Mike Eppley.

Boyd has already set four records this season. He has thrown for at least three touchdowns in each of his four starts, the record for consecutive games throwing at least three touchdown passes, and has established the school record for passing yards over a two game (730), three-game (995) and four-game (1255) stretch.

His interception in the first half against the Hokies ended a streak of 141 consecutive passes without an interception. That is the second longest streak without an interception in Clemson history. The record and only streak longer is a streak of 165 consecutive attempts without an interception by Cullen Harper between 2005-07. Those were the first 165 passes of Harper’s career.

Boyd threw for 204 yards against Virginia Tech and has now thrown for at least 200 yards in five straight games. He joins Charlie Whitehurst as the only Clemson quarterbacks to have at least five straight games with 200 yards passing.
