Danny Ford: Clemson would join SEC if offered |
According to the Montgomery Advertiser, former Clemson head coach Danny Ford while speaking to the Montgomery Quarterback Club on Tuesday night, said Clemson would be the SEC's 14th team if asked.
"I'm just not sure the SEC would be interested in Clemson. We don't really bring anything to the table as far as TV markets and that kind of thing. The SEC is already there (South Carolina). "And let's be honest: This is all about the money and the numbers." If all things were equal, Ford said, Clemson would be a viable candidate to join the SEC. School officials at Florida State, he added, appear to be totally committed to the ACC. "Clemson is an excellent fit with the SEC in every sport," Ford said. "In football, we'd have to do a lot of work, and maybe that would make Clemson get up and hustle a bit, which would be good. "But a lot of our athletic programs fit real good."
"I don't personally speak for the university, and I don't have any knowledge of what's being discussed, but I do know enough people over there to know that, if invited, they would choose to join the SEC," Ford said.
