|Clemson football will host Appalachian St in 2015|
|Press Release - Wednesday, March 26, 2014 1:45 AM||
For the first time in 14 years, Appalachian State opens the 2015 campaign at home when it hosts Howard on Sept. 5. It is the first meeting between Appalachian State and Howard. Out of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Howard has played at least one NCAA Division I FBS opponent every year since 2011 and is coming off a 6-6 season in 2013. Appalachian hasn't opened a season at home since Sept. 1, 2001, when it beat Liberty, 46-26.
On Sept. 12, Appalachian State travels to Clemson for the fifth meeting between the two programs. The Mountaineers are 0-4 all-time against the Tigers but the teams have not met since 1997, when Appalachian led late in the first half before dropping a hard-fought 23-12 decision at Clemson's Memorial Stadium. Clemson is coming off an 11-2 campaign and No. 7 final national ranking in 2013.
In addition to the matchups versus Howard and Clemson, previously announced games versus Southern Miss at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Sept. 19 and at Old Dominion on Sept. 26 round out the Mountaineers' 2015 non-conference slate.
"We're thrilled to finalize what is arguably the most fan-friendly non-conference football schedule that we've ever had at Appalachian State," Cobb said. "The 2015 schedule includes opening the season at home for the first time in 14 years, hosting a non-conference FBS team for the first time ever and nearby road games at terrific college-football venues like Clemson and Old Dominion. Combined what will be a very attractive Sun Belt Conference slate, we think that the 2015 schedule will electrify the App Nation."
The 2015 schedule will also include eight Sun Belt Conference games (four at home, four on the road). Opponents and dates for the 2015 Sun Belt contests have yet to be determined.
