Baseball America projects Clemson as national seed

The ACC Baseball Championship started Tuesday in Durham and three teams go in with a realistic shot at an NCAA Tournament National Seed next week.

D1Baseball.com projected Clemson just outside that group on Monday, at No. 9, with Texas Tech taking the final national seed. Baseball America also has Clemson on the bubble there with the Tigers No. 8 and Texas Tech No. 9.

"Arkansas and Clemson are the two most vulnerable of the top-eight seeds – Arkansas due to its road record (6-13) and fourth-place finish in the SEC and Clemson for its RPI (11)," Baseball America writes. "Fighting for the last couple spots are Florida State, Texas and Texas Tech. Any of the trio could crash the party with a strong week."

Clemson (43-13, 22-8 ACC) clinched the Atlantic Division last week and a share of the ACC's best record with a road sweep of Pittsburgh. The Tigers have won 17 of their last 19 games and 10-straight away from Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Baseball America has North Carolina as the No. 4 national seed and Florida State just outside the mix at No. 10. D1Baseball has UNC at No. 6 and FSU also at No. 10.

Clemson is back in action Wednesday in pool play versus Notre Dame (3 p.m./RSN) and then again on Thursday against Miami (7 p.m./RSN). If they advance out of the group, the Tigers will play at 5 p.m. Saturday semifinal versus the winner of the Pool C group including NC State (40-14, 19-11), Florida State (39-17, 16-13) and Virginia (28-24, 12-18).

The NCAA Tournament national seeds and field will be announced on Monday at noon on ESPNU.
