Ashlan Ramsey Wins GWGA Championship

THOMASVILLE, GA - Ashlan Ramsey, an incoming freshman on the Clemson women’s golf team, won the 84th Annual Georgia Women’s Golf Association Championship at Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville, GA on Thursday. The three day tournament concluded with Ramsey defeating Mariah Stackhouse, a rising sophomore at Stanford, by one stroke. Ramsey recorded scores of 70, 69 and 71 for the tournament.

Ramsey is currently ranked second in Golfweek’s Women’s Amateur Championship Rankings. She has had a tremendous summer. Prior to today’s win, she came in second in the Thunderbird Invitational, won the Georgia Women’s Match Play Championship, won the Women’s Eastern Golf Association Championship, won the Women’s Western Golf Association Championship, came in second in the Trans American Amateur and reached the quarterfinal round of the Women’s North and South Amateur Championship at Pinehurst.

She was also the medalist for the U.S Women’s Amateur qualifier at Cougar Point in Kiawah Island, SC with a score of 68. Ramsey, along with fellow incoming freshmen McKenzie Talbert and Sloan Shanahan, will play in the U.S. Amateur on August 5-11 at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, SC. She will then represent Team USA August 13-14 in the Solheim Cup in Parker, CO.

Ramsey will begin her collegiate career September 8-10 when the Tigers compete in the Cougar Classic in Charleston, SC. It will be the first tournament in the Clemson women’s golf program’s inaugural season.
