ACC expansion will pay off in new TV deal |
From Sports Business Daily:
The addition of Pittsburgh and Syracuse, which will increase the number of teams in the ACC to 14, allowed the league to reopen its current 12-year, $1.86 billion media rights deal with ESPN. Those terms provide each of the 12 existing schools with an average of $13 million a year over the life of the deal. However, CBS Sports asks if the new deal is worth it because of increased travel budgets and the new deal will not take place till the 2014-2015 season when Syracuse and Pitt are scheduled to become official members.
ACC expansion will mean at least $1 million to $2 million a year in additional revenue for each of the conference’s existing schools, according to sources privy to discussions between the league and ESPN.
