Harrell and Fudge Drawing Praise

by - Correspondent -

There are two words that will make every college football player past or present cringe, mat drills. The Tigers have hit mat drills in full force this week. Purple jerseys are awarded to an offensive and defensive player, who really shine during the conditioning.

Cliff Harrell earned the purple jersey for offense, and Jamaal Fudge earned the purple jersey on defense. Both are rising seniors, who will be called upon to show leadership. It is very encouraging that Harrell especially has stepped it up a notch. The role Harrell will play under new offensive coordinator Rob Spence is unclear for the time being. In the past couple of seasons, it has been very evident how important senior leadership is, and I do not believe it should be overlooked that Harrell is stepping up early.

Fudge will be the most experienced returning starter on defense. Fudge and Tye Hill will be expected to lead the secondary next fall. Fudge's leadership qualities have already been shown on the field.

Some may say that it is only mat drills, but the earlier leaders start emerging the better.
