How many games do you think Clemson will be favored in this year?
As of today, I would expect Clemson to be favored against Boston College, Wake Forest, Temple, Duke, and South Carolina. That means in my opinion Clemson will be underdogs according to Vegas in six games this year. As the season goes on, it could change for the good or for the worse. I am not sure, if I see any game on the schedule where Clemson is a double digit underdog. TAMU, Miami, and FSU would be double digit favorites, if the games were not in Clemson. Clemson should compete in every game this season with a chance to win every game on the schedule, but no I am not saying Clemson will go undefeated.
Tell us some good news on the freshman already on campus?
We will not know much about the offensive lineman and defensive players until the real work begins in August. The veterans have really liked what they have seen from Tyler Grisham. Grisham has had perfect attendance in voluntary workouts, and he was described as a sure handed and very polished receiver. Numerous veterans have commented on the physical presence of James Davis and Rendrick Taylor. Davis has reported in outstanding shape, and Taylor is simply a man child. When camp breaks, I expect to hear positive feedback from coaches on the aforementioned along with Quentez Ruffin, Antonio Clay, and Ramon McElrathbey.
Is Barry Richardson headed for a sophomore slump?
I think that is a very fair question to be asked. Richardson's work ethic was more than questionable in the spring. It was stated he felt he had arrived, and Coach Scott was quickly reminding him he had not. The big thing to watch will be if Richardson is able to make all of his conditioning runs at the start of practice. Richardson was in very good shape last August, which allowed him to avoid a redshirt and become a freshman All-American. If Richardson reports out of shape, it could be a tell tale sign that he is headed for a sophomore slump.
How did you feel about Coach Bowden's comments from the golf outing?
I was very excited about Coach Bowden's comments. The comments about a 10 win season and an ACC title were needed. I agree that fans were starting to lower expectations, commenting that 7-4 would be a good season. 7-4 is realistic, but Coach Bowden is right that is not improvement and it is time to improve. It is a good sign that the coach is not willing to let the pressure die down to where mediocrity is acceptable. This is Clemson football and mediocrity is only acceptable 120 miles south.
