What are your early thoughts on the new coordinators?
Both have been very impressive thus far. Not only have they drawn rave reviews from their players, but also the other assistant coaches are very optimistic about what they bring to the table. We discussed yesterday the impact Spence can make on the offense. Koenning is a very intense coach. On the practice field, some have compared his demeanor to Reggie Herring. Koenning will demand more of his players and in my opinion will land better results.
How are the running backs looking?
Reggie Merriweather and Duane Coleman had their most dedicated off-seasons since arriving at Clemson. Merriweather was motivated by the taste of success, but make no mistake both are well aware that James Davis is coming in August. Players will watch film of recruits and read reports on the internet. Coleman has never lacked effort. He was a little limited by the surgery he had on his hand, but Coleman will always give a 110%. The coaches feel very comfortable in what Coleman can do, keep in mind had he not broke his foot, Merriweather might not have had the chance to shine. This battle will only get more interesting as the spring rolls along and the fall arrives.
Who are we waiting on to qualify?
Well they all must graduate first, but we do not foresee any problems in that area. TJ Williams is taking the right steps. On signing day, I would have said he had the most work to do, but is coming along very well. Jamarcus Grant and Chris Chancellor may have a little work to do, but both are in good shape. There maybe others, but as whole this class is in very good shape compared to recent classes.
