Coaches Hit The Road

by - Correspondent -

“Recruiting season” officially began on Sunday as the coaching staff officially hit the road. The start of the season has shifted focus the last couple of years.

A new trend in recruiting is the early commitments. The coaching staff will spend this week mainly doing housekeeping. The coaches will be visiting the current verbal commitments ensuring everything is status quo with the 13 verbals.

Next week, the coaching staff will spend some time scouting prospects at the North/South game. There are not any prospects in the game we believe will jump out and earn an offer. It is just not a good year in-state. Next year, there could be 5-7 players in the game the staff has already offered and is actively recruiting.

One trip we do expect to happen this week is Burton Burns to go to Fork Union. He will visit with TJ Williams and Jacoby Ford. Dabo Swinney is still the recruiter of record with Williams, but Burns is on record with Ford. Clemson and Virginia Tech appear to be the front runners with Ford. Burns will look to put Clemson in solid position early with Ford. Ford is expected to be making an official visit to Clemson, possibly December 16th.

Another visit we have confirmed is Ron West will be visiting Torrell Johnson later this week. Salem athletic director Johnny Tucker confirmed that West was expected to come by later in the week. Johnson does not have an offer from Clemson, but we believe if Clemson comes forth with an offer, Johnson would jump on the chance to come to Clemson.

Coach Swinney will likely make a stop in Tallahassee this week to visit Godby High School, where Clemson has three targets. Swinney wants to ensure McDaniel is firm, plus he wants to test the waters with Kareem Crowell and Marcus Udell. Crowell is more of a priority than Udell.

We will have more updates later in the week, as we keep track of where the coaches are going.
