Wake Forest Review
I can remember something from almost every Clemson game I have ever attended and I will remember Thursday night's 34-20 win for several reasons including the environment.
First was the reminder of how different these two programs are. We went to the game without any tickets because I knew it would not be a problem. I was proud of myself when I found Ryan and me two tickets for a total of twenty bucks. That was before I noticed the face value on the tickets were five bucks each. That pretty much says all you need to know about the state of football at Wake Forest in 2014.
You can't buy a face value ticket for a high school game in South Carolina of five dollars. In our state we charge more than that for high school jamborees. Yet Wake Forest sells general admission tickets for five bucks.
The next difference came when we were tailgating. At a restaurant/bar that was all Clemson fans about two blocks from the stadium, we had some Wake Forest fans come by to ask us directions to the stadium. I have been going to football games for over forty years but this was a first. We actually had fans of the home team ask visiting fans directions to the stadium.
The final thing I noticed was the crowd inside the game. Wake called the attendance at 28,000. No way was that number even close but a majority of fans were Tigers. I have been to games where the visiting team out numbered the home team but this was one of the lowest attended FBS games I have ever witnessed. I guess their season combined with a Thursday night and cold weather kept a few Demon Deacon supporters home.
The game itself was just as bizarre. Clemson dominated in terms of total yards but two turnovers in its own territory and multiple penalties kept Wake in the game.
Like several of recent games, Clemson had a hard time running the ball in the first half. The Tigers threw one interception that led to a Deacon score and fumbled a punt that set up the other Wake touchdown. Other than those scores, the defense was dominant.
Clemson held Wake to 119 total yards including only seven yards rushing. The Tigers also held the Deacs to 4-18 on third and fourth downs.
Clemson's offense got on track in the second half and the Tigers put the Deacs away with two fourth quarter touchdowns.

's 68-yard touchdown broke a 20-20 tie and the offensive line finally played in the final scoring drive the iced the game.
Scott led the Tigers in receiving with eight catches for 122 yards and a touchdown.

in the lineup. Watson is set to return next weekend in the road contest at Georgia Tech. Hopefully he will show little rust and the Tigers offense can get back on track. Clemson will need Watson to win at a place where it hasn't won in its last four attempts. Clemson enters the game as only a two and a half point favorite. Watson's return will be the storyline as the Tigers try to get the offense back to its ways it enjoyed in his first two starts.
